Questions

Each of these is a question, not a fact. Nothing on this page has been agreed.

For John first

  • Splashback: none or matt charcoal porcelain? In one message on 12 Oct 2026 John wrote both "I'm leaning towards to splashback to be honest" and "with the current preference to no-splashback". The book follows the second.
  • Where this book is to live, and who may see it. It is John's home address and the inside of his house.

01  The design as it stands

  • Engineer to check the steel, anchors and footing for wind uplift.
  • Harry to confirm the house-side gutter works with a frame only 50 deep (see the plans).
  • Whether a canopy this size needs council or PlanSA approval.

02  The plans

  • Is a 50 deep frame enough? Engineer or fabricator.
  • Which roof sheet or folded tray suits a 1.5° fall? Roofer.
  • Sheet P03's footer note runs a few millimetres past the border. It did in Rev D as well. Not fixed.

03  Roof, gutter and flashing

  • Harry: is an overflow through the side fascias acceptable, or does he want another way out for a blocked gutter?
  • Harry: downpipe hidden behind the cladding, or on the face?
  • Harry: how high does he want the apron flashing, and does it tuck under the cladding?

04  Splashback options

  • John: final call, none or porcelain.
  • Harry: is he happy with no splashback, with the stand sitting about 150 off the wall?
  • Kiln 2 manual: how much clear space the oven needs behind it.

05  Lighting

  • Electrician: a power point in the roof space near the Velux windows, and the measured run from there to the strip.
  • Harry: keep or drop the conduit in the footing, decided before the pour.
  • Which channel and frosted cover: a standard aluminium LED profile that takes a 14.5 wide strip.
  • Does the Hue bridge reach the canopy, or does the strip need another Hue light nearby to relay the signal?
  • The listing John sent ships from Germany with a European plug (a buyer's review). Buy the Australian one or allow for an adaptor.

06  Materials and products

  • Harry: a tape across two ribs before ordering, to confirm 265.
  • Harry: which sheets are being replaced, and can it be done while the wall is open for the canopy?
  • A sample of the timber-look batten against the existing eave.
  • Kiln 2 manual: clearances above and behind.

07  The site and its measurements

  • Measure 2230, 2375 and 145 on the existing eave and template its face profile.
  • What is behind the cladding: timber frame or the original brick, and how deep the cavity is.
  • Where the house footing sits along the run. Found when digging.
  • Services along the wall: stormwater, gas, electrical. Before You Dig first.
